The OPTIGATE laser photocell is an advanced solution for automatic gates and professional automation systems. Thanks to the integrated laser rangefinder, it works without a receiver and without the need to carry cables on both sides of the gate, greatly simplifying installation and reducing time, costs and possible points of failure.
Unlike traditional reflex sensors, OPTIGATE does not use reflective mirrors. This allows stable operation even in harsh environments: dust, rain, condensation, humidity or dirt do not compromise detection, ensuring constant performance over time.
New firmware – advanced laser adjustment
The updated firmware introduces advanced laser power and sensitivity management, selectable in two modes:
-
Automatic adjustment: the device autonomously adapts the laser power according to environmental conditions, improving immunity to disturbances caused by direct sun, intense rain, snow or abnormal reflections.
-
Manual adjustment: allows the installer to set a higher sensitivity when a quick and timely intervention is required, or a more filtered response in critical contexts.
This evolution makes OPTIGATE extremely versatile, suitable for both standard installations and complex situations or highly exposed to atmospheric agents.
Swivel head and operating modes
The 180° swivel head allows flexible mounting even in confined spaces or with unconventional geometries.
The OPTIGATE photocell now has only two operating modes, both of which can be used both as a safety photocell and for the automatic opening control, depending on the configuration chosen:
-
SAFETY PLUS: laser detection with a range of up to 9 meters, ideal for applications where maximum coverage and greater tolerance to critical environmental conditions is required.
-
SAFETY NORMAL: laser detection with settable distance and range up to 6 meters, suitable for standard installations or where a more selective response is required.
Thanks to the new firmware, both modes can be adjusted in sensitivity and laser power, allowing OPTIGATE to be adapted to both gate protection and opening activation functions, without constraints of use.
Note: The SAFETY PLUS and SAFETY NORMAL modes do not identify a fixed function (safety/opening), but a different detection logic and range. The final function depends on the connection to the control panel and the sensitivity adjustment.
Optional overhead guard
An optional overhead guard is now available, sold separately, designed to further reduce the influence of direct sun, heavy rain and snow.
The canopy is also backward compatible with OPTIGATE, making it ideal for improving existing installations in particularly problematic contexts.

FOREWORD
This laser photocell is designed to solve installation situations where traditional systems are difficult or impossible to apply.
Thanks to the technology with integrated rangefinder, it allows you to create safety systems even in complex contexts, without the need for wiring between the sides or the use of reflectors.
CASE 1 - HINGED DOOR OPENING TO A WALL
When the sash opens towards a wall or a fixed surface, an invisible blind zone is created, with a risk of crushing.
![]() | ![]() |
In these situations there may be problems in the wiring of traditional photocells or problems of spaces that traditional photocells cannot solve.
![]() | ![]() |
In fact, 2 very common situations can occur:
Door that comes to the wall
It may be the case that the tip of the door must reach the wall when opening.
In this configuration:
a pair of traditional photocells (TX/RX) is not usable, since the beam would inevitably be interrupted by the leaf itself during movement;
It is therefore not possible to create a linear protection between the two sides.
In this context, the laser photocell makes it possible to protect only the area behind the door, i.e. the area that remains free and where there is a real risk of interference.
It is important to consider that:
The protection of the crushing area between the tip of the sash and the wall must be managed with other devices or specific solutions, depending on the configuration of the system.
Door parallel to the wall with limited space
Another frequent situation is in which:
the door, once opened, remains parallel to the wall
The space between the sash and the wall is very small
The control center is located on the same side
In this case, the use of traditional photocells can be complex for:
difficulty in routing cables
need for masonry work (traces, pipes)
The laser photocell allows you to:
be installed directly on the side of the control panel
Completely avoid wiring between the two sides
Reduce installation time and complexity
Key Advantage of Laser Technology
In both configurations, the main advantage is the ability to:
Install the device on one side only
Adapt the detection to the actual area to be protected
also intervene on existing systems without invasive modifications
CASE 2 - PROTECTION ON THE EXTERNAL SIDE WITH PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY

In the condominium context, the presence of driveway gates flanked by pedestrian crossings that are not physically separated is frequent. In this situation, the dangers that are created are caused by:
- mixed passage of pedestrians / vehicles
- Risk of impact during opening
- presence of children and pedestrian traffic

To limit this risk by using traditional technological means such as the pair of RX/TX photocells, there is a risk of:
- install columns or supports in the pedestrian path
- having to pass cables and make excavations and crossings
Through the use of OPTIGATE laser technology, on the other hand, the sensor can be installed directly on a column and protect the rear part of the gate.

Logically, each installation must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and each device must be correctly inserted within the more complex automation system (or the machine as the legislation states). Our examples are only theoretical application cases to show in how many situations the OPTIGATE laser photocell can be used.
